Daniel J Butler
Military ROLL OF HONOURDale Butler, son
Technical Sergeant Daniel J. Butler was born October 21, 1921, the son of Floyd and Mary Butler. His hometown was Seattle, Washington.
He was serving as the Radio Operator aboard B-17 42-5139 'Chief Sly II', of the 91st Bomb Group, 322nd Bomb Squadron, when his plane went down 10 miles south of Aachen, Germany, on 17-Aug-43. He was among 6 of the crew of 10 to be killed. He is buried at the US Military Cemetery at St. Avold, France.
Ironically, T/Sgt Daniel J. Butler replaced the regular radio operator on 42-5139, T/Sgt Jack H. Schaeffer, who had suffered frost bite on the mission he flew on August 12th. This would have been the 25th and last mission for Butler.
