On a mission to Rostock, GR on 24 Feb 1944, B-17G #42-31561 left formation with one engine out and the horizontal stabilizer missing and was last seen going down under attack from fighters eventually making an emergency landing at Oster Hojst, Denmark. Killed in Action (KIA).
