"After crossing the English Channel fighters intercepted them a cannon shell exploded in the cockpit. Fighters continued to engage the bomber again and again. Earned the Distinguished Flying Cross as well as 1 Lt Howard N Young and 2 Lt Cleveland D Hickman. After Yenalavage dropped his bombs, he dressed wounds for Young and Hickman and took over Hickman's controls in the cockpit and landed the plane with instructions from Hickman."



Shot down 20-Dec-43 on a mission to Bremen in B-24 42-40133. Killed in Action (KIA).
