Killed in Action (KIA). While on TDY to 9thAF October 1, 1943, on a mission to Weiner Neustadt, 42-72853 'Count Bruga' was attacked by several fighters and crashed in the target area. . Lieutenant. Newbold is quoted by Lundy that the pilot stayed aboard in an attempt to bring the aircraft under control.
