Buhl Native Killed In North Africa Area Mr. and Mrs. Henry F. Lewis of Northport have been officially notified by the War Department that their son, Lt. Warren H. Lewis, flight officer on a medium bomber operating out of North Africa, was killed in action on July 13. Lieutenant Lewis was born in Buhl but spent most of his life in Louisiana. His family moved from Buhl about 10 years ago but returned to this county in January and have been making their home in Northport. The flight officer attended school in Epps, La., and was a student at the Arkansas A. and M. college when he volunteered for service. He served in the ordnance department for six months and was then transferred to the air corps and received training at Maxwell Field and Valdosta, Ga. He received his commission and wings at the latter base. He went overseas on Feb. 14 of this year and had participated in missions out of Cairo, Egypt. Later he was transferred to Tunisia and was operating from a base there when death came. Lieutenant Lewis' family had received a letter from him on Sunday which was written from Tunisia on the Fourth of July. The flight officer had been in service two years and 13 days, had been married for 13 months and was killed on July 13. |
