Foligno, Italy 22 February 1944 Lt. Somers was hit in the head by a piece of flak over the target incapacitating him. His crew rendered first aid and his co-pilot flew the B-25 safely home to Alesani. Lt. Somers was taken to the hospital and died later that day.
