27 October 2006 | Harris Brockington Pate Jr., 82, died peacefully in his sleep at home, Friday, Oct. 27, 2006. Born Jan. 19, 1924, Harry valiantly served his country during World War II in the European and North African Theatres and retired from NASA Langley Research Center in 1982 after 35 years of service. Harry, a native of Hamlet, N.C., had been a Peninsula resident for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Clark Pate. He is survived by three children, three stepchildren, and a grandson, Harris Brockington Pate III and wife, Linda, of Surry; Doris Catherine Pate of Charlotte, N.C.; William E. Pate of Newport News; Barbara Frances Coxe and husband, Joe, of Newport News; Karen Bennett Lisota and Patricia Ann Bennett, both of Virginia Beach; and Harris Brockington Pate IV of Surry. Harry was a brilliant, kindhearted person who loved his animals and his beautiful orchids. He will be sorely missed by family and friends. | |
