near Gricigliana Railroad Bridge, Itay 22 June 1944 When the aircraft was hit by flak, it caught fire. Ahlstrom's parachute was in the middle of the fire. He jumped in to retrieve it and tried to kick open the escape hatch. When last observed he had not been able to open it.
