Shot Down/WIA/RTD

east of Dunkirk, France 13 October 1944 SSGT Chest was wounded when his A-20 was hit by flak over Dunkirk. Despite his wounds, SSGT Chest administered first aid to the more seriously wounded crewmate CPL Michael Doran, then helped him bail out. Once reaching the ground Chest continued to administer first aid until help arrived. SSGT Chest was awarded the Soldier's Medal for his heroism.
