Thomas J McCormick

Military

Thomas J McCormick was a member of 862nd Engineer Battalion Aviation, this operation supplied Airfield Construction Attachments throughout the UK. He was attached to the unit that came to RAF Martlesham Heath prior to the arrival of 356th Fighter Group to set up the airfield. We believe revetments and structure of the new Control Tower were their work.

On 10Aug43 the USAAF ORB records "1 person killed when climbing on a truck, he was run over" using other records and information from USA sources we are very confident that this was Thomas J. McCormick, Ser. 32367327. The HQ for 862 Engineering Battalion Aviation ws at Raydon Airfield, built as a bomber base but used as a fighter base. 862nd went in as a "fighting" unit on or around "D" day.
