Gaston a pilot with 401 Squadron flew 36 missions with the 91st Bomber Group sometimes on 'General Ike'.
He stayed on in the Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam wars in the Communications Command and attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. He retired after 26 years on active duty and took a Master's Degree in Education at Troy State University.
He died in October 2001 after a long illness being survived by his wife Betty and a son and daughter. Another son - who had served in the US Navy - pre-deceased him in 1976.
