Leonard H. Van Over (Oct 29, 1917, Kansas City, Jackson County, MO – Mar 14, 2003, Bridgeport, Wise County, TX) flew (no fewer than) 29 missions as a Ball Turret Gunner and Togglier on a B-17 assigned to the 447th Bombardment Group, 710th Bombardment Squadron, at RAF Rattlesden, from 1943-1945. Leonard and his bride, Pansy, passed away in 2003 and 2002, respectively, and is sorely missed by his three sons, Leonard Eugene, Perry Edward, and James, his seven grandchildren, Karl Elliott, Deborah Jean, Kristine Ellice, James Jr. Corey Eugene, Sarah, and Elizabeth, and seven great-grandchildren. Humble about his service with the 447th BG, Leonard shared his fond memories of friends and victories, choosing to bear the weight of memories of friends lost. It is our hope to further grow our knowledge of Leonard as a fighting Airman of the 447th.
