Assigned 342BS, 97BG, 15AF USAAF. Failed to Return (FTR) Linz tank works 25-Jul-44 ejected by explosion Prisoner of War (POW) MACR 7125
"Shot down over Linz, Austria on 7/25/44 on 35th mission. An 88mm anti A/C shell hit & exploded in bomb bay. Set the plane on fire, knocked controls out and blinded me. Killed six of crew including co-pilot. The B-17 slow rolled twice and then went spinning toward the ground I was trapped inside and could not get to the escape hatch. I prayed 'Jesus Help Me' and immediately I heard rivets popping and the right wing tore off and I was thrown out thru the opening. Thank you Jesus."
Awards: DFC, AM(10 OLC),POW, WWII Victory, EAME.
