Donald Richards

Donald tried to enter the Navy and Coast Guard but failed the eyesight test. He enlisted as a non-combatant in July 1942 and was assigned to the 8thAF Ordnance Co. at Langley VA. Shipped overseas in July 1943 his job entailed making metal tools, operating lathes, milling machines, drills, power hack saws etc etc for all branches of the service. He returned to the USA in January 1946, attended Iowa State Teachers College and began a career in teaching. He retired in 1984 after 30 years as an Industrial Arts Instructor.
