Harry Morris was stationed in England with the 497th Bomb Squadron of the 344th Bomb Group as a mechanic working on the B-26's. According to his discharge papers, he left the US on 2 Feb 1944, and arrived in Scotland on 8 Feb 1944.



He met and married Kathleen Bergin from Mt. Mellick, Ireland, who was living in England. Their son, Harry R Morris, Jr. was born in Cambridge, England in 1944.



Morris had left England 26 Sept 1945 on route to Japan but with the surrender diverted to the US for Honorable Discharge on 3 Oct 1945. According to the ship's manifest Kathleen Morris and son Harry R Morris, Jr. arrived via ship 'George W Goethals' T-AP-182, landing at Ellis Island on 17 Oct 1946. The couple raised their son in Shreve, Ohio.



According to his son, he didn't talk much about his memories of the war but he did talk about the Battle of the Bulge and of being in France and Belgium with his Unit for which he was awarded Combat Medals including 6 Bronze Stars.
