Robert J Bechtold

Military

Forced to bail out on a mission on 14 June 1944. Either Returned to Duty (RTD) or became a Prisoner of War (POW). MACR not clear on this point.

In the Missing Aircrew Report (MACR 6053), Second Lieutenant George L Sutcliffe reports that they were going after targets of opportunity near Liseux, France, when they were attacked by 40 Me 109s. He saw a parachute open that he thought belonged to Bechtold.
