Eileen Unknown
CivilianEileen had a day out at Barkston Heath on 29 July 1944 when she was the guest of the 14th Troop Carrier Squadron. It was also her 10th birthday.
The Squadron diary records that she and her brother Ronald "were feted at a special dinner, they were guests on a neighbouring farm, they posed for photographers, including Larry O'Reilly of American Pathe News and they had the run of the base."
The diary goes on to say that "Eileen left with her bag weighed down with birthday money and a huge cake cut in her honour."
