Robert Haverly, of 846 South Twenty-Fourth Avenue, Bellwood, Illinois, was born July 2, 1923 in Illinois. His parents were William & Ruby Haverly and he had one sister. He went to Roosevelt School and in 1943 graduated from Proviso Township High School (later called Proviso East High School) in Maywood, Illinois. He had been employed as a machinist at Evans Brothers in Chicago. He was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps in September of 1943. He trained at Miami, Florida; Michigan State College; San Antonio, Texas; Sehnan Field and in France in March of 1945. He was a Flight Officer in the 643rd Bomb Squadron, 9th Air Force. He received a Purple Heart.



Killed in Action on 18 April 1945, on a single ship mission to test short range navigation.
