Dwight E Crist

Military

On 12 October 1943, Crist was piloting C-47 Skytrain (serial number 41-38704) through broken cloud, with CG-4A Haig glider tug. 60 miles from Algiers he felt the glider pull three times, and come loose.

Crist and co-pilot Loomis dropped height to search for the glider, but thunderstorms inhibited their search. They notified air sea rescue, but the glider and crew could not be recovered.
