Carl J Erickson

Military

On 12 October 1943, Erickson was piloting a CG-4A Haig Glider, towed by tug from C-47 Skytrain (serial number 41-38704) in the Mediterranian Theatre of Operations. The C-47 was flying through broken cloud, when 60 miles from Algiers the pilot felt Erickson's glider pull three times, and came loose, causing the Skytrain to lurch ahead.

The crew of the Skytrain dropped height, looking for the glider but the could not find where it landed. Thunderstorms further inhibited their visibility.

The remains of Erickson and his co-Pilot Archie O McDaniel could not be recovered
