James G Hoyt
MilitaryJames G Hoyt was pilot of a CG-4A Haig Glider, transporting airborne troops across the Rhine River on 24 March 1945.
His glider landed safely and he began attacking the enemy ground forces alongside the American airborne troops. Hoyt was wounded in action by an enemy mortar shell that exploded nearby and he was evacuated to a field hospital. His co-pilot Wade Butler was killed in the explosion.
