15 miles NNE of Cromer, Norfolk, UK | 23 February 1945 | After his a/c made a rapid decent and ditch in the North Sea, Henderson made this statement, "I escaped through the top hatch and pulled the engineer, who was injured, after me. We released the left life raft, externally. We picked up the tail gunner, but were unable to find any other crew members as the aircraft sank from sight almost immediately. We were sighted by a place at 1600 hours and soon three P-47's were circling us. They were soon joined by a Lancaster and then a PBY came out and picked us up." |
