MilitaryShot down in P-38-F on escort mission to Meaulte, France by Unteroffizier Stoller near Calais 2 Oct 1942. Prisoner of War (POW). Group was transferred to 12th AF on 14 September but was still operating under 8th control.
Initially listed MIA difficulty identifying since he left his dog tags hanging at bedside .
He was KIA , eventually brought back to USA 1947 and reinterred in family lot Dallas , Texas

William Hughes Young born Dallas, Texas 1918 was my uncle. My father was Sam H Young Jr born 1916 , 4th fighter group , P-51 PILOT . He was POW at Stalag luft 3 from May, 30 1944 until liberated at Moosberg, germany by George C Patton's forces April 30, 1945. Survived 15 to 20 missions and the winter March along with thousands of others.
