Thomas Jefferson Adams

Military

Crew member of B-24 Liberator 41-23810 'Tarfu', flew on 1-Aug-43 Ploesti raid, returning safely to Libya.

Later flew on 4-Jan-44 mission to Kiel, Germany. A/C hit by flak damaging controls, causing loss of control. A/C crashed 2 Km southwest of Süderschmedeby, south of Frensburg, Germany. POW. MACR 8342.

Statement from T/Sgt Thomas J. Adams:

"Our plane crashed because the control cables had been shot in two by anti-aircraft fire. Of course the plane went down in a spin, and there was not much time to get out, therefore we that were in good condition could not aid those that had been wounded and could not help themselves. The aircraft crashed 2 km southwest of Suderschmedeby, south of Flensburg, Germany.

Awards: POW, WWII Victory, EAME.
