He did two tours of duty. The first was as pilot in the 306th BG and completed 25 missions by July 1943.

Assigned to the 384th Bomb Group, 546th Bomb Squadron on AAF Station 106 Special Orders #140 dated 17 July 1944, as crew pilot. Transferred to the 547th BS on Station 106 Special Order #195 dated 2 October 1944. He completed 27 missions with the 384th BG.
