Shot down 17 August 1943 in B-17 #42-29559 'Stupntakit'. Initially evaded, helped by the Belgian COMETE evasion network. Traveled through Belgium and France on his way to Spain. Was arrested in Saint-Jean-de-Luz near the Spanish border on 10 September 1943. Prisoner of War (POW).
