Robert C Umberger
MilitaryOn 8 September 1944 I was flying with the 303rd Bomb Group on the group's 237th mission to Ludwigshaven, Germany. Flying about 28,000 feet above the North Sea near Holland we passed directly under two vapor trails going in the opposite direction. We had no idea what caused the trails or how high they were. We had witnessed the first two V-2 ballistic missiles fired in any combat. One hit London and the other hit Paris. They were sixty miles high when we passed.
