Ray Shepard served as a Private, Corporal and Sergeant with the 49th Pursuit Squadron, 14th Pursuit Group at Hamilton Field, March Army Air Base and North Island San Diego before this group was redesignated as the 78th Fighter Group. With the 78th he served as a crew cheif then a line chief with the 82nd Fighter Squadron, first out of Goxhill, and then Duxford, England.
