Shot down probably by flak on a mission to Berlin on 4 Mar 1944 in B-17G #42-31169 'Hey Mabel!'. Prisoner of War (POW).
According to MACR 2998, Candiotti was a Flight Officer on 42-38169. There was a fire in the radio compartment of the aircraft, reason unknown. The Pilot peeled out of formation, the aircraft went into a spin, and crashed. 5 KIA
