Paul David Gilson, 88, beloved husband of Phyllis, nee Nathanson, for 66 wonderful years; loving father of Dr. Ian (Norma) Gilson, Dr. Noah (Dr. Cynthia) Gilson and the late Michael Gilson; cherished grandfather of Sarah Gilson (Liron Potash), Dr. Robin Gilson (Carlos Lopez), Dr. Jessica Feintuch, Mitchell Gilson (Alexandra) and Andrew Gilson; great-grandfather of Dovid, Leonardo, Efraim and Silvia; devoted son of the late Joseph and Mathilda Goldstein; dear brother of the late Gertrude Rothstein and Harriet Whalen; fond brother-in-law of Dolores (the late Shelley) Nathanson; beloved uncle, cousin and friend of many. Lifelong Chicagoan, graduate of Roosevelt High School and University of Illinois. World War II Veteran, pilot of B24 and Lieutenant Colonel of US Air Force Reserve. Founding board member and past board chair of Oakton Community College and board member of Center East Performing Arts Center. He had a long and distinguished career as a mechanical engineer for the federal government and private industry. He was a consulting engineer for the Skokie Public Library and member of the Skokie Rotary Club. He was an avid bicyclist, snowshoer and nature hiker until late in life. Chapel Service Tuesday, 12:15 p.m. at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Rd., Arlington Heights. Interment Shalom Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Michael Gilson Scholarship Fund at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Rd., Des Plaines, IL 60016 and the Michael Gilson Memorial Fund, Skokie Valley Agudeth Jacob Synagogue, 8825 N. East Praire Rd., Skokie, IL | ||
