Orville K Whitcanack
Military"Iowans of the Mighty Eighth", Chapter 22 "Biographies", by Charles D Taylor.
Orville Whitcanack flew 32 combat missions with the 493rd BG, first with the Charles Hauge and then with the Kenneth Carney crews. Completing his tour with the Group on the 24th December 1944. He then made a transfer to the 482nd BG and was listed as being released from duty, for return home to the US, in February 1945. According to records he arrived in the US on 22nd March 1945. Orville died in October 1984, his widow Mary retained membership in the 8thAF Historical Society and wrote up a history of Orville's crew.
