Born and raised on the family farm at "Double Bridges" in Osceola, Arkansas, Nelson Segraves enlisted in the Air Corps two months before the attack on Pearl Harbor. He followed Bombardier training and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant. After training at the Big Spring Bombardier School, he was sent for further training at the Army Bombardier School at Childress, Texas. Sent overseas, he was assigned to the 446th Bomb Group / 705th Bomb Squadron at Bungay. He was Bombardier on board B-24 “Quivering Box” # 42-100315 when it was hit by Flak on the 21 July 1944 mission to Munich, Germany. Injured in the back, Nelson went down with the Liberator and was
