Minor "Jim" Kirkpatrick



Dr. Minor "Jim" Kirkpatrick, age 91, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2013, in Mountain Home.

He was born June 10, 1922, in Rockford, Michigan, to Minor and Yetta Bereka Kirkpatrick. On October 6, 1941, he married Juanita Wolf in Bellefonte, Arkansas. Dr. Kirkpatrick was a lifetime area native. After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, he and Juanita returned to Mountain Home where he owned and operated Jim's Sweet Shop Bakery and also worked at the Mountain Home Post Office. He raised dairy cattle and brought the first registered Holstein cattle to Baxter County. He enrolled at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock and later graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri with a Doctorate in Dentistry at age 40. While a student in Little Rock he worked for the Arkansas State Police as a personal guard to Governor and Mrs. Orville Faubus. He started his dental practice in Mountain Home in 1967. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Mountain Home Masonic Lodge. He played football on the original Mountain Home Bomber Football Team and was recently inducted into the Mountain Home Bomber Hall of Fame.

Dr. Kirkpatrick was a kind, gentle soul who was very supportive of his grandchildren's endeavors. He owned and flew his own airplane and enjoyed fishing, especially deep-sea fishing, and hunting.

Survivors are three daughters: Angie (Doug) Van Dolah: Mountain Home; Annette (Nick) Kanakares: Olathe, Kansas; and Charlotte Jones: Fayetteville, Arkansas; six grandchildren: Brian (Pam) Jones, Erik (Jenna) Jones, Katie (Cory) Brummett, Evan Van Dolah, Elizabeth (Jay) Talley, and Allison Kirkpatrick and seven great-grandchildren- one great-grandson, James Talley being named after him. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers and one sister.
