Navigator of B-17 42-38169 of the 94th Bomb Group, 331st Bomb Squadron, when, probably hit by Flak, it went down over St. Omer, France on a mission to Berlin on 4 March 1944
(NOTE The Fortress is also wrongly listed as 42-31169 - Freeman's "The B-17 Flying Fortress Story").
2nd Lieut Bennie ZAK was made as Prisoner of War (PoW).
According to MACR 2998, Bennie was confirmed as the Navigator of 42-38169. The aircraft had a fire in the radio compartment, reason unknown, peeled away from formation, went into a spin and crashed.
