Our losses were obscene, I calculated that over half of my comrades were casualties. My Group arrived in England with 36 B-17s and by war's end, 2 yrs. later, we had lost 180 planes. On June 25, '44 we dropped supplies to a French Underground Unit in the Vercor region of France that was surrounded by Germans. In 2000 the grandson of one of these resistance fighters invited me to their annual remembrance of this occasion. My wife and I were hugged and kissed, wined and dined and decorated with their medals. The moment that I remember most is the opportunity, after 56 years, to shake the hands of these men.
