Jackson, Ohio, USA | 27 September 1921 | SGT Marion D. Ross: Mission Narrative: Pilot Lt James R. Chinn KIA. Mission No. 4, Date - February 25, 1944, Target - Augsburg. Plane s/n 42-31517 was piloted on this mission to Augsburg by Lt James R. Chinn. His plane was hit by flack over France and he had to leave the formation. He salvoed his bombs but was still not able to rejoin the formation and was attacked and shot down by fighter aircraft over Mont St Martin, France in the Ardennes Northern Region. Seven crew members were killed, two evaded and one was captured and became a POW. The crew on this mission was as follows: Plane s/n 42-31517; Pilot Lt James R. Chinn KIA, Co-pilot Lt Robert F. Cooper KIA, Navigator Lt Frank McNichol Evaded Capture, Bombardier Lt John C. Vollmuth Evaded Capture, Aircraft Engineer Sgt Vite Peragine POW, Radio Operator Sgt Robert J.
