Logan A Thompson
Military ROLL OF HONOURUploaded
Killed in Action (KIA) 19 June 1944 in A/C #42-107088.
Logan enlisted in the AAF in October of 1942 he trained at Dyersburg, Tennessee and eventually was sent overseas to England in April, 1944. He was based in Ridgewell with the 381st BG he served twelve full missions and on the thirteenth mission the tail gunner of his B-17 Robert Matthews heard him scream over the intercom he left his guns to investigate. He crawled past the retracted tail wheel and saw a body or lump of clothes near the ball turret. Before he could get a better look at what he saw flak hit him in the hip and blew away one of his fingers causing him to jump. When Logan's mother Marie Thompson received a telegram listing him as missing in action Logan's older brother Charles badgered the Army to draft him and transfer him to his brothers unit. Thirty days after the telegram was received Charles had arrived in Liverpool, England and later made it to Ridgewell there he spoke to Logan's friend's, saw the bike he rode, the bunk he slept in, and heard his name at mail call. One year after his disappearance Logan and all other members of his crew still listed as M.I.A were declared killed in action.
