Corporal Leonard M. Gilkey was born December 12, 1918, and was the son of Joseph and Florence Gilkey. His hometown was Lyons, Kentucky.
On September 9, 1944, he was a gunner on B-17 tail #42-102594, of the 390th Bomb Group, 570th Bomb Squadron, went it was shot down over Ennepe-Talsperre, Germany. Of the crew of nine on board, CPL Gilkey and three others were killed.
He is buried in the River View Cemetery in New Haven, Kentucky.
