Engine damage caused by flak on a mission to Friedrichshafen, GR on 16 Mar 1944, forced B-24J #42-100116 to turn towards Switzerland but crashed near Schlattingen, Switzerland after the crew baled out where 8 of them landed in Austria and 2 landed in Switzerland. Prisoner of War (POW).
