Chandler, Arizona 13 May 2009 Shook, Kenneth L. (Ken) of Tempe, died early Wednesday 13 May 2009, at the Beverly House of Hospice of the Valley in Chandler.He was born May 24, 1918, in Grand Junction, Colorado. Kenneth received his Fine Arts degree from the University of Kansas in Lawrence in 1936 where he studied music and was also a brother of Pi Kappa Alpha. After enlisting with the Army Air Force in 1941, he was called to active duty in 1943. He retired as a USAF major in August 1967 after serving 20 years active duty as well as the Reserves. After his military retirement, Kenneth started his new career working in real estate in Overland Park, Kansas. After several years, he moved to Tempe in the mid-1970's, where he started and ran his own real estate school, Progressive School of Real Estate with his wife Florence. Kenneth was actively involved with a variety of groups. He was a prominent member of Kiwanis International. He was a Mason of the Kilwinning Lodge in Pratt, Kansas, the Scottish Rite and the York Rite. He was active as a Shriner with the El Zaribah Shrine in Phoenix. He was also a member of VFW, American Legion, Military Officers Association of America, 446th Bomb Group Association, University of Kansas Alumni, Pi Kappa Alpha Alumni and the Tempe Chamber of Commerce (Military Affairs). Kenneth is survived by his wife of 47 years, Florence, his son Philip, his stepson Ronald Gustafson and his wife Patti of Albuquerque, N.M., his stepdaughter Lani and Scott Gates of Scottsdale and their 3 sons Kirk (and his fiancee Amy), Grant and Clark (and his wife Courtney and their son Dylan). Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 20 at the Tempe Mortuary at 405 E. Southern Ave., Tempe to be followed by a service at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at 23029 North Cave Creek Road, Phoenix at 12:30 p.m. where his ashes will be interred with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in his name to the Kiwanis Club of Tempe (KCOT), P.O.
