Victor Franklin Grissom Jr flew 13 missions (12 credited) with the 510th BS, 351st BG out of Polebrook, Station 110, England from 15 Mar 1945 until 17 Apr 1945.



After WWII, he was assigned to the 1st Experimental Guided Missiles Group at Elgin Field in Florida. The 1st Experimental Guided Missiles Group flew DB-17 "mother ships" controlling QB-17 drones to support the Atomic Energy Commission nuclear tests. On 13 January 1947, the Guided Missiles Group received nationwide publicity by conducting a successful drone flight from Eglin AFB to Washington, D.C., in a simulated bombing mission, With Grissom piloting the mother ship.
