MilitaryShot down on 4-Feb-43 in B-17F 41-24589 "Texas Bronco" while serving as Waist Gunner.
'Texas Bronco' piloted by Lt Ellis was damaged by flak on a mission to the industrial area of Emden then attacked by German fighters. ME 110s and JU88s. The pilots crash landed on the beach at Terschelling Island, Holland and destroyed the plane. 2 were killed and the other 8 became Prisoner of War (POW)s. Listed at Stalag 17B in Austria. National Archives listed him as 'J. L.' rather than 'Joseph'.
