After take off for mission to ST Pol, FR on 31 Jan 1944, B-24D #42-63970 'Heavenly Daze' experienced mechanical problems and the crew baled out over England and the aircraft was shot down over the North Sea. RTD. 16th mission. Damaged. Landed in Switzerland after completing the bomb run on Friedrichshafen, GR on 16 Mar 1944 in B-24D #42-40969 'Big Noise'. Interned.
