On the December 9, 1944 mission to Stuttgart, Germany, John was on a/c 42-97833, "Silver Dollar", which collided in mid-air with a/c 42-97170, "Julie Mae". A/C 42-97833 was able to land safely in France, with no casualties, however a/c 42-97170 had only 2 survivors.
