Military ROLL OF HONOUR

John E. Hand Jr was a Co-Pilot in the 446th Bomb Group / 705th Bomb Squadron at Bungay. A member of the Charles W. Haney crew, he replaced Pilot Eric H. Sherman's regular co-pilot on the 21 July 1944 mission to Munich, Germany. John Hand was on B-24 “Quivering Box” # 42-100315 when it was hit by Flak that day. Injured in the stomach, some of his fellow crew members threw him out of the stricken Liberator. Apparently, his parachute didn't function, as his body was found dead on the ground by the Germans in the area of the crash, near Tholen, The Netherlands. Killed in Action (KIA)
