Tail Gunner, Hedin Crew. 381st BG, 533rd BS, 8th AF. Killed in Action (KIA) 22 June 1943 on B-17 #42-3223 "The Red Hot Riding Hood". Mission #1 to Antwerp, Belgium. First confirmed combat casualty of the 381st BG of WW II. This was his first mission. 20MM or .30 caliber wound in the neck. Originally interred in Brookwood Cemetery. Reinterred in the Clyde's Chapel Southern Methodist Cemetery in Saludas County, South Carolina.

Shot down 2 Me-109s before runing out of ammunition.
