Enlisted in 2nd Infantry, 5th Division, Fort Custer, MI. Transferred to Camp Forrest, TN. Opened up new camp January 1941. Transferred to Air Corps December 1941, Jefferson Barracks, MO. Then to Chanute Field for familiarization course on airplanes, then to Caldwell, NJ for training in Curtis electric propellers. Then to Glendale, CA Air Corps sharing a runway with civilian airline. Then to Painefield, WA joining 55th FS.
