James D Stewart
MilitaryShot down 17 August 1943 in B-17 #42-29853, Prisoner of War (POW). May have been Lieutenant J. D. Stewart mentioned in Losses of the 8th & 9th AFs Vol. I by Bishop & Hey p. 503, in 17 July 1943 mission.
POW
Yes, this is J.D. Stewart, who saved my Father's life after bailing out Aug. 17, 1943. My Father, Frank A. Smith, Jr., was injured in an explosion in the plane prior to them all bailing out and without J.D.'s assistance probably would not have survived the "march" to medical help.
