VIII Air Support Command 10A & 10B
30 July 1943Description
This mission is comprised of two elements and was officially designated as missions 10A and 10B. The first element was 24 B-26s from 386BG to attack the German airfield at Woensdrecht, Holland. 1 B-26 Failed to Return (FTR)-6KIA 1POW and another crashed on take-off -8RTD. This is the first combat mission for the 386BG. The bomber gunners claim 6-5-1 of enemy aircraft (statistics not clear if any of these were ground kills).
The second element was a formation of 24 B-26s from 323BG despatched to attack the German airfiled of Wevelghem at Courtrai, Belgium. This formation was recalled because the fighter escort was fog bound. No losses or claims.
