1st Bomb Division
Division
The groups under the command of the 1st Bomb Wing came under the command of the 1st Bomb Division in August 1943. In December 1944, the Division was redesginated the 1st Air Division.

All fighter groups participate in the escort for mission 669. Lt. Urban Drew of the 356th fighter group surprised two ME-262 jet aircraft as they were taking off. Major Hubert Zemke, commander 56th Fighter Group, flying a P-51 Mustang shoots down an ME-262 in the air.
